Our annual in-service training will be held from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, October 7. This year, our seminar is entitled "Unleashing the Language of Dogs: Understanding the Canine Stress Signals in Therapy Work." We are both privileged and honored to welcome Julie Castaneda as our presenter. Many of you know Julie as the owner of Dog Day Afternoon, a highly regarded boarding and day care facility with two locations that have been serving Topeka families for more than 25 years.
Julie specializes in canine behavior modification and possesses an extensive understanding of canine body language. She has also worked in other dog related fields such as training, search and rescue, police and service dog training, animal control and disaster response. Her work has been recognized nationally by the ASPCA and Humane Society of the United States. Julie is also the author of "Dog Church," and will have copies of her book available to purchase.
Julie will speak from 9 am to noon. We will have an informal lunch and Q&A session between noon and 1 pm. Lunch is included in the registration fee of $15 for PVAA members and $25 for non-members. Registration is currently only open to members. If space allows, it will be opened to the public at a later date. Members can find further information about registering on our Member Only access page.

Prairieland is a fun and friendly group of folks from the heartland who are interested in promoting the human/animal bond.

Our group provides registered pet therapy teams to nursing homes, retirement homes, hospitals, schools and other facilities that can benefit from interactions with a therapy animal.

The Association meets 4 times a year, participates in local community events and provides speakers to various organizations.

We encourage evaluation and registration of animals to ensure that they are welcome at every facility. Our members belong to: Pet Partners or Alliance of Therapy Dogs.

Contact us if you have any questions, comments or inquiries (use email form at the bottom of this page).
